Greetings! I am the guided reading specialist here at Bess T. Shepherd. This is my 16th year teaching and my 6th year at BTS.  I attended Western Kentucky University and graduated in 2001 with a Public Health degree.  In 2008 I received a Master's in Elementary Education from Indiana University. I have been married to my husband, James, for 12 years.  We have three wonderful children that all attend schools in Hamilton County.  In my free time I love to volunteer and work on crafts.

     As the guided reading
specialist, I am excited to share my knowledge
and love of reading with your child. It is my goal that I can help encourage them in their reading journey and teach them valuable skills and strategies that they can utilize to help strengthen their reading ability.

Guided Reading CLip art     Based on most recent assessments (Grade level appropriate reading inventory/Fountas and Pinnell ) some students have been identified as a student who could benefit from extra support in reading. At BTS, we strive to provide that support through various avenues.  We will continue to use the R.I.S.E (Reading Intervention for Students to Excel) program.  If your child is identified as needing reading intervention, I will see him/her 4 days a week for one 45 minute block in a  pull-out setting. We will address vocabulary, fluency, comprehension, and reading strategies based on the needs of the student. This service is in addition to the whole group literacy instruction from their homeroom teacher.

I look forward to working with you and your child this school year. If you have any questions, comments, or concerns regarding your child or the reading program, please contact me.
