Welcome to a new school year! I am the guided reading specialist here at Bess T. Shepherd. This is my 16th year teaching and my 6th year at BTS. I am excited to share my knowledge and
love of reading with your child. It is my goal that I can
help encourage them in
their reading journey and teach
them valuable skills and strategies that
they can
utilize to help strengthen their reading ability.

Based on most recent assessments (Grade level appropriate reading inventory/Fountas and Pinnell ) some students have been identified as a student who could benefit from extra support in reading. At BTS, we strive to provide that support through various avenues.
We will continue to use the R.I.S.E (Reading Intervention for Students to Excel) program.  If your child is identified as needing reading intervention, I will see him/her 4 days a week for one 45 minute block in a  pull-out setting. We will address vocabulary, fluency, comprehension, and reading strategies based on the needs of the student. This service is in addition to the whole group literacy instruction from their homeroom teacher.

I look forward to working with you and your child this school year. If you have any questions, comments, or concerns regarding your child or the reading program, please contact me.
