Ashley Ward

Hello! My name is Ashley Ward and I have taught 3rd grade for four years here at Bess T. Shepherd. 
I graduated from Middle Tennessee State University with a Bachelors in Elementary Education K-6. I was born and raised in Chattanooga, Tn and I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, cooking, reading, and more.  I also own my own hair care line called Kinetic Charm!

My subjects of focus are Math, Science, and Writing. In 3rd grade math we learn all about multiplication and division, fractions, area and perimeter, and more. We focus on bar modeling which is a step by step process that students follow to thoroughly solve a word problem. Many math tools are used in the classroom for students to fully grasp the understanding of their mathematical thinking. In 3rd grade science we do a lot of STEAM (Science, technology, engineering, art, and math) in the classroom. Students get the opportunity to become scientists in the classroom when many hands on activities. They get to experiment, observe, and make predictions throughout many science lessons. In 3rd grade writing, students learn how to write a cohesive paragraph using text evidence. Along the lines of writing a strong paragraph, students gain knowledge of using and writing correct grammar, writing a narrative and informational writing, and cursive hand writing. 

My goal is to make sure all of my students are engaged everyday with the knowledge and excitement they receive in my classroom :)
