Mrs. Tonya Taylor

I came from a long line of teachers. As I child I wrote in all my reading books like I was creating lesson plans, so it was no surprise when I finally accepted my calling to be a teacher. I love seeing a child's "light bulb" cut on!

I first begin teaching at Howard Elementary School, with an alternative certification. After being there for two years, Howard closed and I moved to Calvin Donaldson. I was there for eight years and enjoyed every minute, but I really wanted to work with children in my community. So, I made to transition to find a school close to home. Bess T. Shepherd became everything I could have asked for. It was close to home, I see my students at the grocery store and Walmart, and I get to work with the best staff ever!

I am married to a wonderful man that understands the demand of teaching. I have two grown children that live in San Antonio, TX and Richmond, VA. I have hopes of being a grandmother one day soon. When we are a little older, we want to travel the world and become missionaries.

This is my 16th year of teaching in the primary grades. I'm very grateful to be a teacher and a member of the Shepherd staff. Most of all, I look forward to working with you to educate your child.
